The event took place in the Variety Preview Room Theatre at 7:00 p.m. in the evening. Despite the odd time and night, the event was packed.

Just before the play began, the author/performers were seated facing the audience. The floor was at the same level as the audience (rather than a raised stage) giving the event a more intimate feeling. Here, Gregory Tiede and Richard Lupoff waited while a photographer behind them photographed the audience.

The play was performed on two standing microphones that were shared. Here, Rina Weissman, producer of "SF in SF" at the Variety Room, announced the event.

Michael Kurland was the author of the radio play, yet gladly performed too.

The Announcer, played by Richard Wolinsky, not only read scene bridging descriptions, but also read the amusing commercial breaks.

Gregory Tiede read the part of the tough talking, wise cracking private detective.

Lori Leigh Gieleghem read the role of the moment.

At moments during the performance, three or more actors would have to share just two microphones. Here, Gregory Tiede (left), Peter Beagle (center), and Pat Lupoff (right) shared mikes.

Not only was this a performance of words, but sound effects provided a realistic counterpoint when required. Here, a pillow was energetically punched by Lori Leigh Gieleghem and Cara Black to emulate the sound of a beating.

The Maltese Omelette is an homage to Dashiell Hammett and Mother Goose, performed in the popular "fairy tale noir" genre as an old-time radio drama. Here, Gregory Tiede made an appearance just before the show began.

As the end of the radio play neared, so too increased the complexity of the story and the number of performers involved. Here were Richard Lupoff (left), Peter Beagle (center), and Lori Leigh Gieleghem (right)

The radio play ended after almost an hour of funny and totally entertaining fun. The radio announcer played by Richard Wolinsky.
