The Wart-necked Piddock, like all piddocks, has a shell that is divided into 2 or 3 separate sections with ridges or teeth used to grind away at clay or soft rock and create tubular burrows.

The clam gathers nutrients from the water until a threat is detected, then it retracts into its burrow.
