Seals were carved from a solid piece of Maple Burl. The uncarved part of the burl became the base for the sculpture.

Five carved seals crowded the piece of Maple Burl. They all appeared to be swimming together with wood as their water.

A close up shot of one of the five seals carved from Maple Burl. Notice how the polished grain of the wood helps to bring the seal to life.
