The Goethe Schiller statue rested in a sunny glade in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. It was easily found while walking a footpath.

A sign was present on the front of the base of the Goethe Schiller sculpture. That sign specified the title of the sculpture, "Goethe. Schiller."

Two men stood atop the Goethe Schiller statue. On the left was Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and one on the right was Friedrich Schiller . From 1780 through 1805, Goethe and Schiller became good friends.

The two men lived in Weimar, Germany. They were seminal figures of a literary movement known as the Weimar Classicism. They were honored with a statue, the original of which was located in Weimar, Germany. The statue in San Francisco was a copy of that original.

The two men gazed forever out at Golden Gate Park.

Goethe held a wreath in his right hand. Schiller held a scroll in his left hand.

A sign was etched into the back of the statue. It read:

Both men wore tall socks and low shoes. The pants were tucked into the tall socks.
