Several quotations from the Ken Kesey novel, "Sometimes A Great Notion," were placed around the base of the sculpture. Here was one example of one such quotation.

The statue represented Ken Kesey by showing him reading to a woman and two children. The woman was his granddaughter Kate Smith, and the two boys were his two grandsons Caleb Kesey and Jordan Smith.

The statue shown in the context of Broadway Plaza with a section of brick sidewalk along Willamette Street shown to the right of the photo.

Ken Kesey (the man in the statue) read a book. His hat was wet because this photo was taken in Eugene, Oregon.

Pages of the book had fallen prey to graffiti. On the left was, "EF PL" and on the right was "Honpoy Eass," both scratched into the page surfaces.

Opposite Ken Kesey reading were his three grandchildren (left to right) Kate Smith, Caleb Kesey and Jordan Smith.
