The Centennial Bridge is located 15 km (9.3 mi) north of the Bridge of the Americas and crosses the Culebra Cut (Gaillard Cut) close to the Pedro Miguel locks. Here it just began to appear in the distance on a hazy day threatening rain.

The bridge is high enough over the water, 80 m (262 ft), for even huge ships to pass under it.

The bridge spans over the Culebra Cut (Gaillard Cut), the most difficult dig of the original canal. Landslides killed hundreds of worker and buried the railroad during the original dig.

A cable-stayed bridge supports the road with individual cables from towers. The Centennial bridge is a modified fan arrangement in which the cables terminate near to the top of the tower but are spaced from each other.

A roadway connects to the bridge on it eastern side. The road is a four lane freeway.

The roadbed was a single concrete span.

A we left the Centennial Bridge behind and continued south the bridge began to disappear in a heavy downpour of rain.
