Historic buildings lined the street. Each housed an historic sign. Those signs read, "Pacific Railroad," and "Huntington & Hopkins Hardware," and "N. Dingley Star Mill."

On the other side of the tunnel under the freeway was the entry to downtown Sacramento. A gate and art formed arches over the sidewalk.

Just in case the tourist became confused, a sign on the arch over the sidewalk said this was the entrance to, "Downtown" Sacramento, California, which meant that the tourist was exiting Old Town.
