Bishop Joey, with a drum growing from his chest, led the parade from under the protection of the Transamerica Pyramid and toward the wilds of Columbus Avenue.

The festive mood at the event featured not only a pipe smoking giant, but also two dancers who began to dance their way along the parade route.

Mouse ears on the head of this man awaited the chant that was about to come. Fortunately these were not Micky Mouse ears, otherwise a take-down notice would be filed. Instead he simply waited for the chant to begin outside the Scientology building.

The parade began to widen as it passed Jackson street. Here it had already grown enough to occupy two lanes of out-bound traffic.

Following a brief chant and a period of rest, the parade continued up Columbus Avenue. Again led by an assemblage of drums.

A man held up a "Got Scandal?" sign just as the parade crossed in front of the City Lights Book Store. A lower sign read:

An oddly attired bird held up its egg as if to throw that egg in anger at someone ahead in the parade.

A man wearing an antler hat blew a horn just as the parade finally crossed Broadway.

The parade continued at a brisk rate and without pause up Columbus Avenue, at last leaving Broadway in the dust.

One participant wore winged cellophane glasses and smoked a fake cigarette, from the tip of which burned tinsel flames.

The parade was so wide and long this year that it occupied both out-bound lanes of Columbus Avenue. A motorcycle officer allowed the parade to march through red lights and prevented risk from cross traffic.

The lunch crowd seated at outside facilities of the restaurants along upper Columbus Avenue watched the parade pass, relaxed after a good meal. One clown from the parade sat to chat with the diners.

After almost a full twenty-one minutes of discontinuous marching, those in the parade were beginning to show signs of wearying. Notice how the violin player had placed his violin back into his tommy gun case.

Despite smoking a pipe along the entire route, the giant head appeared as fresh at the end as he did at the start.

A woman wearing a slinky dress, carried a monkey alongside her man with his blue hair and matching vest. Unobserved to their left, the Doggie Diner heads finally made their move to pass.
