The bridge over the Stranahan River carries traffic into town over Highway A1A. This is a modern drawbridge.

The channel under the bridge was being dredged on the eastern side. In this shot you can see the control tower atop the drawbridge.

Across Lake Mable, another cruise ship could be seen docked at the end of Elder Drive.

Nice housing bordered the channel of the Stranahan River. On the land-ward side, the housing could be accessed along SE 21st Avenue.

Hotels were erected on the other side of the peninsula, facing the Atlantic Ocean.

A variety of boats could be seen in the Stranahan River: a water taxi, fishing boats and yachts.

The drawbridge was up around noon. Here, apparently allowing a small fishing boat to pass under.

Another cruise ship had just departed and was passing out the channel into the open sea of the Atlantic Ocean.

The Everglades cruise ship terminal from which our Island Princess departed. Off in the background the high-rise downtown area of Ft. Lauderdale could just be seen.

A mansion on shore featured multiple levels, its own beach, and a large indoor and outdoor pool.

Marietta Street ran down the center of the peninsula. St. Sebastian Catholic Church dominated the center of the peninsula.
