A dirt path led off from the northwest end of the hotel. Despite the heat of the day, the path was shaded and cool.

The path ran alongside a cliff high above the Columbia River. A graphic sign warned, "Caution Cliff."

Picnic tables, alongside a wood rail fence, had a dramatic view of the Colombia River Gorge.

Large boulders lined the path. Many had been there so long they had become overgrown.

The path narrowed as it approached the overlook. You can just make out, at the far end of the path, the first rocks that formed the overlook.

A metal safety rail surrounded the rocks so that an adult could gaze down without worry. The gap at the bottom was large enough to create a risk for unattended children.
