The entry was through an arched opening just off the vast parking lot. The layout of the winery had a distinctly European feel. Under the shade of redwoods, the temperature was cool but not cold that day.

A steeply gabled, tile covered roof over wine storage helped keep the wine cool. The stout old wooden doors were locked.

A fountain was inside

A running fountain was just inside the first courtyard. In the center was the figure of a boy wrestling a fish. Wind that day blew the plume of water into wild patterns.

A rusty lamp cover

Lamps lined the wall of the courtyard. Each was well rusted and affixed head-height to the wall. Note the diamond pattern that gave the lamp a Moorish feel.

The lower windows were shuttered

Ivy on the walls had been stripped away. The shutters were closed and recently painted, giving the courtyard a well maintained but rustic look.

Two outside hallways were at 90 degrees to each other. This one led away from the wine sampling rooms. Notice the carved wooden column in the center of each arch.

Hanging bulbs suggested summertime evening parties. This day threatened rain so the bulbs were not illuminated. Notice the arched columns of the hallway to the left and the vineyard to the right.

Visible from the lawn with lights over it was a grouping of stainless steel vats. That was the only hint of the modern in the entire winery.

The presence of a person sitting in one of the archways gave this scene a sense of scale. This was the outside of the corridor that had the tasting room.
