This cut face was left over after trail clearing. The cracks on its face resembled a clock with the hand pointing at either 10:15 or 2:50.

The cut off end of this tree had been scorched black. It too was left over after trail clearing, but looked more ominous because it was so dark.

This stump was found alongside the trail through Kerby Park. Note how its once smooth surface is developing character as it dries. Wonderful cracks radiate out from its center, and small chunks near the edge have begun to settle back into the leaf covered ground.

This stump was dark, almost black near its center, but light tending toward brown near its edge. Here, cracks appeared to form following the tree's growth rings.

Shadowed Cut

Part of Huckleberry Botanic Regional Preserve runs through a shady forest. Here, an old fallen tree had been cut of to remove the broken parts. Sometime after the original slice, cuts like ruts were set into its top. The fall of shadows across this oddly cut top created a somber mood.

A campground can sometimes be more interesting for adults than for children. here, the idle hands of youth had painted the top of this stump in a vaguely psychedelic pattern.

An old tree had broken and fallen. Later, workers had cut the ragged top away leaving behind this interesting smooth cut.

A very old and very dead stump found beside the path in the Zoo. Its shape was somewhat like that of a human hand or perhaps an animal's paw.
