This story began by dropping someone off at the San Francisco Airport. This is what the airport looked like in 1967.

A gasoline tanker truck took the turn too fast as it exited the freeway. The truck fell on its side and burst into flames. The fire caused northbound traffic on the Bayshore freeway to stop.

Gasoline burned as it flowed down the gutter toward the cameraman. The cameraman beat a hasty retreat.

The truck's tires had begun to burn. The smoke was so dense it blocked out the sky.

The fire was so intense that flames fell over the edge of the overpass and landed on the northbound lane of the freeway. The northbound lane was empty of all traffic.
