A photograph showed: "Formal Portrait of a Head Light Keeper with 1st Assistant Keeper and 2nd Assistant Keeper." Back when the lighthouse was kerosene powered, the lenses and the windows had to be cleaned daily by the head light keeper and assistants.

Brick Double Wall

The lighthouse was constructed of brick with one round wall inside another. The air gap between the two walls help chimney away most of the soot from the lamp back when it was kerosene powered.

The lens was multi-paneled to create a Fresnel lens. It was constructed in France, shipped in pieces and assembled on location. In the old days, the inside of the lens had to be cleaned daily. With its modern electric lamp, the lens only needs to be cleaned once per year.
