A pickup with its bed filled with bags of fertilizer passed a slower flatbed truck filled with cages.

A power pole was reflected off the back of a shiny aluminum truck from out of state that was hauling unknown merchandise down the road.

Highway 101 curved west to cross over railroad tracks. A county road paralleled the tracks and passed under the freeway.

Much of the highway ran a curved route through flat agricultural lands. Notice the dirt trench that divided the northbound side from the southbound side.

A large flatbed truck hauled an oversized load of what appeared to be an agricultural device of some sort.

Looking west, the Coast Range of mountains looked like hills in the distance. Clouds from a storm that had just passed still lingered over those mountains. Along this section of road, power lines grew to more mature sizes.

A sign mid-roadway advised that the offramp for highway "198" from "San Lucas" to "Coalinga" was at the "Next Exit." The highway passed near San Lucas but was many miles west of Coalinga.

The rolling hills that from time-to-time paralleled the road were covered in the brown grass of summer. A lone, but classic oak tree accented this hill.

We passed a handsome travel trailer called a "Silverback" (made by Forest River ) that had a ladder up its back to a sloped roof.

A large truck hauled Coors Light beer ("The Silver Bullet") toward the Vineyard exit off Highway 101.

A 76 gas station was available by exiting at this exit 220B for San Anselmo Road.

For folks that day, the usual exit 219 was closed for repair. Instead, many had to either exit early or wait 3/4 miles for the Curbaril Avenue Exit.

Hills began to appear alongside the Highway. In the California tradition, those hills were spotted with many oak trees. The summer brown grass was ready to turn green again as soon as the rainy season began in earnest.

The Highway cut through hills and approached the coast. As Monterey County ended, soon San Lous Obisbo County would begin.
