The ship the United Milos Monrovia was about to be guided through the Miraflores Locks by a mule. Notice that the mules on the Miraflores Locks have only a single track on each side. Because they cannot pass each other, the ship must use lines in the locks, so that a different pair of mules can take over.

Mule Detached Inside Lock

Once the ship was properly located inside one of the Miraflores Locks, the ship was tied to the dock with docking lines, and the mule detached.
