A mural of whales has graced the wall that begins Cannery Row for years. The park in the foreground was part of the Bay Trail that led from the Wharf to and through Cannery Row.

An old diving helmet was on display near the start of Cannery Row. The description under the Cannery Diver's Helmet read:

Cannery Divers Memorial

Monterey's world-famous sardine industry depended
on the courage and skill of the cannery divers. Sardines
were pumped ashore from floating hoppers through
underwater pipes that had to be installed, repaired,
replaced, realigned and maintained in order for the
canneries of the old row to operate a full six month
season each year. Monterey could never have become
"The Sardine Capital of the World" without their
heroic underwater exploits. Two Monterey Cannery
divers, their names marked with an asterisk, died in
the performances of their dangerous work under the
waves of Monterey bay.

A plaque near the entrance to Cannery Row gave a succinct description of its history.

This was the view looking along Cannery Row in the direction of the distant aquarium.

An alley part way along Cannery Row on the bay side had private parking for folks who worked there.

Kayaks for rent were being loaded onto a truck to be hauled who-knows-where so that they could be rented out for the day.

Part way out along Cannery Row along the bay side of the street was this staircase leading down to McAbee Beach .

The Tasting Room for Baywood Cellars was open that early afternoon with its lovely Bougainvilleas out front.

One of the bus stops for the Monterey-Salinas Transit was a bench set between columns. This stop serviced the 2X Express to Pebble Beach.

An old water tank still stood in a vacant lot on the landward side of Cannery row.

The Fish Hopper "Seafood • Steaks" and "Outdoor Dining • Cocktails".

On the Bay side of Cannery Row, behind all the buildings were wood-on-concrete pilings set into gnarly piles of rocks. The wooden path to the right was part of the bay side of the Trail.

On the Bay side of Cannery Row stood a huge hotel.

On the bay side was an old cannery building with new windows that reflected other buildings and hotels.

Behind the hotels of Cannery Row was a pedestrian path with benches and a fine view of Monterey Bay. At the far end of this path was the aquarium.

A plaza, partway along Cannery Row, was surrounded by restaurants and markets.

The Clement Monterey is part of Intercontinental Hotels and Resorts. An elevated walkway that belonged to the hotel crossed Cannery Row.

Cannery Row ends at the aquarium.
