The wharf stood on piers and formed the southern border of the harbor.

The entry was just an extension of the sidewalk. To the left was Harbor House Gifts & Jewelry .

The sign out front read:

Old Fisherman's Wharf
Monterey's earliest pier of stone built in 1846 gave way
to a commercial fishing wharf in the early 1900s when
Monterey's multi-million dollar fishing industry was born.
Despite many changes the wharf today retains the tone and
flavor of the past - - - a monument to the fishing industry
and the fisherman who braved the wind and sea.

To the right of the entry was the Paluca Trattoria restaurant. Dining was offered either inside or outside on a deck with umbrella covered tables.

Typical of wharf stores in general, the Wharf's General Store sold souvenirs and souvenir clothing.

Free samples of a clam chowder in a bread bowl were offered by the Red Snapper restaurant with its advertised "Outdoor Patio."

The Carousel Fine Candies store with doors wide open under a carousel top offered ice cream and candy.

The Liberty Fish Co. also offered chowder in a bun.

Chris' Fishing Trips was one of several businesses offering whale watching trips.

Some of the buildings on the wharf were huge. Much larger than expected for a humble wharf.

Two extensions ran off the wharf and allowed access to fishing and other water adventure companies.

On the outside edges of the wharf were multiple levels that one could explore.
