The Perkins Residence was built in 1887 by Danish born Jens Rasmussen, a local carpenter living in Oxnard at the time. The house was an unusual combination of Queen Anne architecture external link (with its ornate gables, flat spindle work verandas, and a multi-gabled roofline) and Stick-style architecture external link (the patterned wood walls seen especially in the front bay window).

The front doors featured a shield in each face. The doors were locked that morning, and a closed clothing shop was located inside.

Inside the Perkins/Claberg House was a clothing shop selling clothes in the style of the 1800's. That morning, a rack of on-sale clothing stood in the center of the shop.

The right side of the Perkins/Claberg House relative to its front. Perkins came from Ohio in 1880 to direct sheep and farm operations for Thomas Bard, and had the house built in 1887. The Claberg's, a pioneer family, were the second owners and resided in it from 1920 to 1980.

To the right of the rear stairs was an entry to the basement. Stairs led down under the rear porch. When the house was moved here from its original location at 464 Pleasant Valley Road, Oxnard, its basement was moved as well.
