The Brannan Street Wharf is a new 57,000 square foot open space built over the bay in the heart of the South Beach neighborhood. The Wharf includes a neighborhood green; a waterside walkway with seating and picnic tables; a shade structure; and interpretive features about the height of the tide and the site's history.

The crowd of people began to assemble to witness the grand opening and ribbon cutting.

A one man band was present to entertain the folks in advance of the opening ceremony.

A sample tide ring was on display at the Opening. It read:

"I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay - Watchin' the tide roll away - Ooh I'm just sittin' on the dock of the bay - Wastin' time"

News vans parked on the sidewalk to be close to the opening ceremony.

The stage was empty and waiting for the ceremony to start. Seats marked as reserved were also empty.

The ceremony began and introductions were made of the various city Supervisors, Port Authority members, and others instrumental in the creation of the new park.

Otis Redding Junior played, "On the Dock of the Bay."

The small stage was filled with dignitaries, completely masking the Mayor who was just then speaking.

The mayor not only dedicated the new park, but also put in a strong plug for his plan to locate the Warriors Basketball Team in a new stadium on Pier 32/34.
