Many of the houses in the area were literally cabins in the woods. Wood slat exteriors with peaked roofs and a gravel drive out front for parking.

In an effort to preserve as many trees as possible, even the roadway itself was constructed to wind around the trees.

A hand carved totem pole stood in front of one of the houses in the neighborhood. This was a simple totem with only a single animal (a beaver) on top.

A sculpted, metal chicken stood between two trees alongside the road. It almost appeared to be waiting to cross.

Two old chairs stood at the end of a cabin's driveway. They both screamed for repair. They stood next to two propane cylinders that were probably empty.

A full-fledged house stood just beyond a small hill. This just illustrates that not all the homes were cabins.

A fancy gate barred access to a home from the road. The gate appeared to open in the center, but in fact the whole gate rolled sideways to open.

Old tourist cabins were visible from the ski lift into Heavenly Valley.

Whereas a cabin in the middle of the woods reminds one of horror films, a home in the middle of the woods reminds one of the suburbs.
