Beach, Sycamore Cove

![]() Handy to the beach and beach parking lot was an open restroom with a shower. In addition, a brief walk into the adjoining campground provided additional restrooms with showers.

![]() As demonstrated by this family, the path to and from the beach was easy to walk. Of course the walk would become harder as the path became loose sand.

![]() There was a reasonably large parking lot, but only half the parking lot was shaded so it was best to park there early. Parking was free.

![]() A sign that read in part, "Welcome to Point Mugu State Park," listed the rules for park use and provided a map that showed the relationship of the beach to the campground and to the mountain trails.

![]() Point Mugu State Park was partly in the Santa Monica Mountains (an example of which was visible near the beach) and partly along the low coastline. Hiking trails lead up and around these mountains.

![]() Highway 1 used to meander slowly up the coast. A remnant of that slow highway remained near the beach. Abandoned now, this old bridge provided a good place to pause and gaze westward.

![]() The trail to the beach passed under the current, busy Highway 1. This over-pass also provided a bit of shade at the beach. Once you went under this over-pass, the beach spread for miles in each direction.

![]() A swimmer at the beach stopped swimming perhaps because of the cold water. He lifted his arms and waded back into shore. This photo was taken from high over the beach and from the Overlook Trail inside Pt. Mugu Sycamore Canyon Campground.
