The slough looked pastoral in the morning light just two hours before the eclipse.

The part of Willamette Slough seen here, that was wide and deep enough for recreational boating. Riverfront Park with its tents and eclipse-chasers lay to the right, and Minto-Baker Island lay to the left.

Willamette Slough was fed by a couple of creeks. Here was one that ran through downtown Salem and emptied into Willamette Slough.

The wetlands of Minto-Baker Island formed a sink to prevent flooding of the city. In the midday light, the seen was lovely with Willamette Slough passing through it.
