Old Bridge, On The Skagway Rail Tour, White Pass & Yukon Route

![]() This old bridge, in its day, must have been a dramatic and handsome bridge to cross. It is now bypassed in favor of a newer all steel bridge.

![]() The metal rail and some of the ties were removed from this end to prevent wrongful, and possibly dangerous access.

![]() The metal part of the bridge was built based on triangles and tension/compression. The bridge lacked sufficient give to survive an earthquake.

![]() The wooden end of the bridge appeared match-stick fragile and almost ready to fall down of its own accord. You can see that the top of the wooden end is wrinkled and sagging.

![]() That old bridge spanned a deep river gorge. As you can see, it must have been exciting to cross. It probably groaned and creaked loudly when crossed during its last useful days.
