![]() The massive trunk of this large tree looked ordinary where it met, and then entered the ground. Or if you prefer, where it emerged from the ground.

![]() The trunk of this tree appeared smooth from a distance, but up close its trunk was covered in small thorns. Here the thorns were about the same size as rose thorns.

![]() One limb was oddly twisted into a corkscrew shape. Notice the presence of small thorns even on the higher overhanging limbs.
