The trees in Charco Verde were labeled with signs giving their popular name and their scientific name. In Nicaragua, the Guazuma Ulmifolia was labeled:

The Guazuma Ulmifolia can grow to over 30 meters in height. It is a lushly full tree providing shade to the trail below.

The trunk of this tree was virtually a single vertical post emerging from the ground. It's base does not spread like so many of the other jungle trees surrounding it.

Its bark was relatively smooth for such a large tree.

Its leaves appeared dappled in the sunlight, but the dappling was the actual coloration of the leaves.

The shape of the leaf was concave so that water would be channeled off the tip.

The leaf had a serrerated edge that felt rough but not sharp.

Branches of this tree grew in a tangle. It was unclear if this was typical or not.

Smaller branches grew mostly upward from a horizontal branch.

Here was what the view looked like when standing under the tree and looking up. A lushly random arrangement of layers of branches and leaves.
